Darcy and Annie opened Creative Explorers in 2009 and together they work in tandem with their own unique set of skills to run the preschool and childcare.
Darcy began working with preschoolers in 2003 and has been working hands on as a lead teacher with the children ever since.
“I never want to become disconnected with what is going on in the classroom. Being a part of the children’s day to day allows me to understand each groups needs and provide stimulating materials to enhance and entice children into play. I love teaching and am always excited to come to work; even after almost 20 years of teaching they still keep me on my toes and make me laugh.”
As an owner Darcy also manages the indoor and outdoor classroom environments, equipment and layouts. She hand picks the learning materials and is in charge of Creative Explorers curriculum. She and Annie love taking time to work hand in hand to plan the annual events and added preschool excursions. In mid 2020 she stepped out of the pre-kindergarten lead teacher role and now enjoys supporting in all 3 classrooms.
Annie has a BFA with a concentration in Photography from SJSU. She has enjoyed working with a multitude of ages of children on and off throughout the years. She has great enthusiasm for working with children whether it was coaching Judo, helping underprivileged children in the refugee camps in Hong Kong or volunteering, teaching them how to read and play sports. She has also worked as an early childhood educator with toddlers and young preschoolers for many years.
“I believe in providing a fun learning environment with lots of opportunities for creative play. My love for experimental art and music has influenced the children to get messy, think differently and to challenge what is “normal”. I do not believe in giving up – if there is a will, one can always find a way.”
With a background in Management, Annie's natural role in the preschool has been the Operational Manager. Her ability to take care of the day to day responsibilities is unmatched and the families, staff and children adore her. She enjoys touching base with each family and is great at balancing the in and outs of operating a childcare facility.
